Suspension of Philips CT Production: What Does It Mean to You?

Posted by Vikki Harmonay on Tue, May 13, 2014 @ 16:05 PM

Phillips temporarily suspended manufacturing CT scanners and molecular imaging equipment at its Cleveland facility in April, following an inspection by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier this year.  While the decision was voluntary and a senior manager made assurances that there was no indication of product safety issues, the production suspension may affect pending and future orders of the scanners.

Philips CT ScannerWhile it appears the production halt has more to do with paperwork issues than safety issues, it still puts facilities or practices that are in need of a scanner in a predicament.  If you’ve placed an order and it’s been delayed, can your practice wait an unknown amount of time for your CT scanner?  Will it delay construction?  Will the financial cost of the delay hurt your practice?  What if you hadn’t placed your order yet, but are in need of the CT scanner? Do you wait until production begins?  Or find another solution?

The good news is, Atlantis Worldwide has a great resource of Phillips Healthcare CT and PET/CTs that are refurbished and in perfect working order.  (We also have comparable equipment by other respected manufacturers, as well)  And the benefits of buying used or refurbished CT equipment are many:  lower costs, terrific warranties and expert advice that can help you identify the perfect solution for the needs of your facility, clinic or practice.  We can also guide you through the process of determining room requirements, installation and more—complete project management.
