When it comes to CT Scanners, Siemens Somatom models are very popular—especially since so many of them are available on the secondary market.
Somatom Definition AS
This CT Scanner is popular because of its versatility in addressing a wide variety of clinical applications. These include oncology, diagnostic imaging and cardio vascular imaging. Available in 20, 40. 64 and 128 slices, it delivers high quality imaging but is not as fast as newer models. You can choose either a water cooled version or an air-cooled version. When comparing CT Scanners, keep in mind that this one does have an expensive tube.
Somatom Definition Flash
Available primarily in a 256 slice, this CT Scanner is known for its exceptional speed in image acquisition. Using advanced technologies like Stellar Detector, it enables rapid scanning, reduces patient exposure to radiation and enhances throughput. It boasts two tubes for incredible images, but those tubes come with a hefty price tag— $200,000 each. The Definition Flash is both expensive to buy and to service. Flash models deliver specialized cardiovascular imaging capabilities, delivering high resolution imaging of the heart and its vessels. It can perform dual-energy CT imaging, which enables enhanced tissue characterization and material differentiation. It does deliver workflow efficiency, with features that streamline workflow and improve overall efficiency.
Somatom Definition Edge
Do you need a CT Scanner that can deliver a wide range of studies? The Siemens Somatom Definition Edge cold be right for you. It has better spatial resolution than the AS model, and enables better visualization of anatomical structures. While it only has one tube, it can utilize Dual Energy. While it usually has 128 slices, it is still available in a 64. To improve workflow efficiency, it incorporates automated post-processing tools and has patient positioning aids.
Somatom Definition Force
If you’re looking for high-powered performance, the Definition Force model can deliver exceptional image quality even in challenging imaging scenarios. Generally it’s a 256 slice, and it incorporates dual-source CT technology. This enhance temporal resolution and delivers high-speed imaging of moving structures. It’s the most expensive choice of the Somatom models and is also pricey to service. However, for advanced cardiac studies, you’ll get your money’s worth.
