If You Fell in Love with an MRI at RSNA, is it Time to Buy?

It was another great RSNA show in Chicago over Thanksgiving and chances are, you’ve still got visions of new MRI equipment dancing in your head.  But is now the best time to buy?  And is that new MRI really what you need in order to be more successful at your clinic or facility? HubSpot Support-1

First, it’s important to note that MRIs have changed radically in a relatively short period of time.  In the past, there were just a few companies who made MRIs, now every major manufacturer who offers high end x-ray equipment is in the MRI field.  Today’s MRIs offer field strengths from low field starting at 0.064T to high field of 1.5T to 3.0T. And now they’re available in a wide array of specialized versions—for breast imaging, extremity MRI, head MRI, research and more.  You probably saw a lot of these new MRIs at the show and started thinking about how you could put them to use at your hospital or facility.  We all like new things, right?  But with so many options, where do you begin?

First and foremost, you have to define and understand your market. It may sound boring, but it’s really the most important step.  If you don’t thoroughly understand your market, even the best new MRI technology may not help you achieve the success and revenue you want.  A detailed market analysis will guide you to the right MRI choice for your business.  You need to carefully examine social and demographic characteristics, the demand for MRI services in your area and at your facility, referral sources and even the local competition.  After all, you want to make sure there’s a need or demand for the new MRI you’re dreaming of.

Next, you need to take a close look at your facility.  Do you have the room you need to house a new MRI?  Is there ample access to transport the system into the facility?  Try to get your hands on the actual blueprints for your facility.  You’ll also want to talk to an expert about shielding requirements.  (The team at Atlantis Worldwide is always happy to help!)  Once you have a system in mind, you’ll also want to talk to an architect and engineer before making your purchase.

The next step to finding the perfect MRI solution?  Call an expert—like us.  (It’s not bragging if we can back it up. Honestly.) Atlantis Worldwide can help you determine the MRI equipment that’s perfect for your practice—and the best fit for your budget.  In many cases, we find that pre-owned MRI solutions make sense, especially with the lower reimbursement rates we’re seeing lately.  And since our pre-owned MRI systems come with warranties that truly protect your investment, they make even more sense.

The bottom line is this:  no one should run out and buy a new MRI just because it looks great on the floor of a show like RSNA.  BUT, with a little time and research, and the help of the Atlantis Worldwide team, you can end up with a MRI that performs beautifully and really pays off.
