Are you getting ready to set up an MRI room at your medical facility? If so, there are a lot of decisions to make, from choosing the right MRI machine to
preparing your MRI room for RF Shielding. RF Shielding is a “must” since it prevents the noise of radio frequency from entering the MRI Scanner and distorting the images or scans. It requires extensive planning and a significant amount of testing before you can launch your MRI scanning services.
The process begins when you assess your MRI room. You’ll need the services of a shielding vendor, which is a contractor separate from the company you are purchasing your MRI Scanner from. It’s wise to contact a shielding vendor before you purchase your imaging device in order to make sure the site you’ve chosen for your MRI room is truly suitable for installation.
Testing Your MRI Room Location
Your shielding vendor will perform a variety of tests, including:
- AC/DC Interference Test: This will measure the potential effect of electrical currents that are located in the vicinity of your MRI site.
- RF Interference Test: It provides information about the potential effects of RF-producing equipment that are within or near your building.
- Vibration Test: This measures the level of vibration about your potential MRI site. Your images will be compromised if your system is shaking as it’s scanning.
Once the testing is complete and your MRI site has been approved, your vendor will work with you to determine which type of shielding is the best choice. Shielding is available in copper, galvanized steel and aluminum.
