It’s official. Social media is no flash in the pan. It’s been embraced worldwide from tweens to grandmothers to politicians and, yes, the medical profession. In fact, a 2014 study from MedData Group revealed that 56% of doctors use social media professionally, most often to connect with peers and stay abreast of developments within their area of expertise. Some have used social media to elevate their stature as thought leaders, or even to market their practice.
But what about patient privacy issues? How does a radiologist separate their personal privacy from their professional social media efforts?

Back in the day, all MRIs were long, dark and uninviting. Patients entered a confining, deep tunnel for the procedure, which proved uncomfortable for some patients, and impossible for those with claustrophobia. And let’s face it, no one wanted to have his or her child—or elderly relative-- experience that type of MRI exam. When Open MRI system hit the market, the number of potential MRI patients grew tremendously. In addition, to the new appeal of an open environment, many Open MRI systems were easier to site and less expensive than their high field counterparts. In addition because Open MRI systems did not use cryogens, their service contracts were also lower than high field MRI systems.
Until 2004, physicians who required high field stre

Today’s Healthcare Cost Environment: What’s an MRI Facility to Do?

In a perfect world with high reimbursement and unlimited patient volumes, the high cost of acquiring or siting an MRI system would not matter. You could lease any system you wanted and every five years, at the end of your lease term, you’d get a new MRI system. Reimbursements were high for outpatient imaging center. Vendors, radiologists, administrators and imaging center owners negotiated the system, service and price, and it was a win-win for everyone. And while service contracts were high, MRI imaging was still highly profitable, whether in a hospital or an outpatient imaging center.
Well, that may have been the case 25 years ago, but not anymore.

Service Contracts for Imaging Systems: Penny Wise and Pound Foolish?

Hospitals and imaging facilities are stressed with increasing costs, which means every department is looking for ways to save money. Many are tempted to change service contracts for imaging devices from full coverage warranties to Time and Materials policies or Parts Only policies, believing that this will ultimately save money. It is no secret that the most expensive consumable component associated with CT scanning is the CT X-Ray Tube. Some CT Tubes can cost $200,000 and more for a new replacement. While most providers carry CT X-Ray Tube coverage as a part of their CT maintenance contract, this coverage still represents a “five figure” annual line item cost.
The attached paper will describe how and why CT Tube Life is extended when SafeCT, or any OEM iterative reconstruction solution for that matter, is incorporated to achieve low-dose CT scanning capabilities. Many SafeCT customers tell us that they have experienced from 40% and up to 4X (four times) life extension on their CT tube using SafeCT!

Expand Imaging Services into a Mobile or Modular Environment ?
Posted by Vikki Harmonay on Tue, Jul 15, 2014 @ 12:07 PM
We’ve talked to lots of our clients lately about whether to expand digital imaging services into a mobile or modular environment. Sometimes expanded facilities are needed during construction on a current facility or when existing equipment is being replaced. Other clinics, practices or hospitals need to offer or expand their imaging services, but lack the capital or available space to do so within the walls of the facility. In all of these situations, a mobile or modular environment can be a great solution. (And even better while utilizing a used or refurbished MRI or CT Scan, but we’ll get to that later.)
